The Building Analyst course centers around basic building science and energy efficiency within the home. As opposed to focusing on one aspect of a home such as air conditioning or lighting, the Building Analyst course emphasizes a "whole house" approach to efficiency.
The Building Envelope course delves further into a building's thermal envelope or shell. Topics covered include evaluating thermal and pressure boundaries, insulation, air sealing techniques and ventilation requirements.

Q: What is the likelihood of all of “this stuff” (PACE, Home Star, etc.) passing?
A: Home Star looks very promising as it has bi-partisan support in Congress and support from the President.
Q: How many days does the course take?
A: We give you the option to take the course at your own pace, but we suggest taking it within 2 to 3 weeks so the material is fresh for the exam. You will also receive a pre-screened job opportunity after you receive your certification, so time is money.
Q: How about field training? Is that included?
A: Field training is not included, but we have a national network of BPI affiliated field trainers. Availability varies by region, but is increasing every week. E-mail or call us to let us know when and where you would like to get field training and testing.
Q: What is the difference between accredited and certified?
A: In short, accreditation is for a company while certification is for one person. To get certified, a person needs to pass one exam in one discipline (usually Building Analyst). To get a company accredited, that company must have at least one certification in two disciplines as a company. One person can hold both certifications. So, a one-person company can be accredited if that person holds two certifications.
Q: I want to do a class in person. Do I have that option?
A: If you want an in-class experience and are in the San Diego region, take our regional class. For more information, go to: http://www.ces.sdsu.edu/Pages/Engine.aspx?id=831.
